Tuesday 13 August – Milnathort to Edinburgh

I was up fairly early and decided I would head down to Loch Leven to test out whether I had fixed the issues with the waypoint mission. I had created a small test over land nearby to make sure it would take photos. Success!

With that successful test I commenced the real flight – out and around the castle. Everything went perfectly, I was high enough over the castle to get some great shots. When I got back to Louise’s we had a look at the photos and they turned out pretty good, even if I say so myself.

David had already headed off to work, but Ros and I said goodbye to Louise. We headed off with our final destination being Edinburgh. We wanted to see Stirling Castle as it was about 45 minutes up the road. After driving around Stirling twice, we were unable to get a car park so we decided that seeing it from the outside would have to do for now.

The airbnb people in Edinburgh said the flat would be ready around 12:15, so we headed there. We arrived around 11:45, just a tad early. The lady did show us how to get in etc. and gave us some keys. We headed to a nearby cafe to have a snack. It was still a little early, so we walked up part of the Royal Mile (aka High Street) to have a look. Our flat was ready so we headed back and got settled in and everything out of the car. The flat was quite nice having two bedrooms (one for Ros and I and another for Carwol and Mick Mick). We had a bit of a sleep and then decided it would be time to drop off the car. It was due back at 5pm at Edinburgh Airport, where we would meet Carwol and Mick Mick.

On the way to the airport we stopped through Fountain Street, Loanhead, to see where my great grandmother had lived. It was #53. Mum and Dad had visited many years earlier. It appeared things had changed now. We were not able to find number 53, but guessed that it was now part of number 55. Number 55 was quite a lot larger than the other places and looked like it was originally two separate buildings. Our hunch would later prove correct when I got in contact with Mum and Dad.

We stopped through Maccas as we hadn’t eaten for a while. In case you are wondering, yes, it tastes the same as everywhere else. One thing not on the menu though are sundaes – they have more McFlurry flavours though.

As we arrived at the airport it was bucketing rain. The car rental drop off area was hectic and no spaces left. We drove around a little bit before Ros said just drive down the “driving Lane” I already had the shits and just decided to drive down the ‘driving lane’ and park. They checked over the car, no issues found, and off we walked towards the terminal. We had about an hour to wait for Carwol and Mick Mick.

When the arrivals board said they had landed we headed towards the arrivals hall and proceeded to get out our name boards for them. We aren’t sure whether “Mick Mick” means something funny in Scotland or not, but lots of people looked at that sign and laughed. After a while we saw Carwol and Mick Mick coming through the gates.

The taxi pick up area was horrendous. There was a long line and no taxis. There was another area right next to it that had ‘private hire car’, so we joined that line, not knowing whether you needed to pre-book or not. In the end our line went a lot quicker than the taxis and off we went!

We had bought some stuff earlier in the day for dinner as Carwol and Mick Mick had just arrived from Australia after 32 hours. We cooked dinner and went to sleep as we were all shattered.
