21–22 September 2019 – Madrid: Rolling Out in Style

We wrapped up our time in Madrid the fun way—with a Segway tour around the city. If you’ve never glided past palaces and parks while trying not to look like a wobbly penguin on wheels, you’re missing out. It was a great way to cover ground quickly, and surprisingly easy once you got the hang of it. We zipped through gardens, plazas and even managed a few Segway selfies (don’t tell the guide).

Next stop was a bit more regal—a tour of the Royal Palace. All marble, chandeliers and more gold trim than a wedding cake. Room after room of Spanish splendour, and enough royal portraits to feel like someone was watching us in every hall. An incredible glimpse into Spain’s history and a fitting way to close our cultural chapter here.

But there was one last mission before leaving—a very important one: find some Oro Bailén olive oil to bring home. Mission accomplished. Possibly the most luxurious liquid souvenir you can pack in a suitcase without needing bubble wrap and prayers.

With bags (and oil) packed, we headed to the airport for our flight from Madrid to Shenzhen. Long haul ahead, but we squeezed in one more rooftop sunset at WXYZ bar, drinks in hand, tapas on the way, and flamenco music in the background. A perfect way to say goodbye to Spain.

Next stop: China.
